BELOIT, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad opened Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Sunday on the road. They battled in a doubleheader against the Rockford Regents. The Eagles (7-6, 1-1 NACC) fell shy in a low-scoring 4-3 affair against the Regents (6-9, 1-1), but bounced back in a big way in a 14-10 offensive display in game two.
GAME ONE: ROCKFORD 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- The Regents set the tone for the first game early with a home run to center field in the first inning. A single in the fourth made it 2-0 Rockford.
- The Eagles pieced together a three-run seventh to take the lead. bunt from
Ryan Ambrosy put Edgewood College on the board, before a fielding error sent a run home to tie things up.
Joseph Kalafut's sacrifice fly to center field gave the Eagles a 3-2 advantage.
- Rockford ended the scoring the way it started; a two-run home run to left center field put things squarely in the home team's favor. The Eagles went three up, three down in the final two frames
- The Regents pitching staff was the story of the game. Jared Herzog got the win while Kent Evans tallied a save. The two combined for nine strikeouts, while Herzog threw two innings of no-hit ball.

Nick Manthei earned the start, allowing only three runs while tossing five strikeouts.

Kyle Prindle hit two-of-three and walked once.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 14, ROCKFORD 10
- The tone for the game was once again set early. The Eagles sent four across home in the second inning. A
Kyle Sagan double started the rally, while
Connor Goodwin singled to push Sagan home. A Kalafut home run cleared the bases with two runs. Errors would eat into the 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the frame, a throwing error sending in an unearned run while a single down the left field line made it 4-2 Edgewood College.
- Sagan sent a solo shot to left field in thefourth, while
Cooper Holewinski scored two with a single up the middle that turned into another base on the throw. A double to left center would leave things at 7-3 Eagles.
- Edgewood College cracked the game wide open in the sixth. A
Jacob Carney foul out got one across home, while singles from
Daniel Bentivegna and Sagan left things at 10-3. A single up the middle would put two on the board for Rockford in the bottom of the frame, but a two-run single from Bentivegna in the seventh would push the winning runs across home, while a sacrifice fly to center field left things at 12-6.
- A home run derby broke out in the last two frames. A Sagan homer put the final two runs on the board for the Eagles in the top of the eighth. A two-run shot in the eighth and ninth for Rockford settled the final tally at 14-10.
- 10 pitchers featured in the offensive showcase between both teams.
Aidan Williams went five innings in the start and earned the win.
- Sagan had a monster day with five RBIs and three runs. He hit four-of-five with a pair of home runs and a double, a triple shy of the cycle.
- Goodwin swung three-of-six with an RBI and a stolen base.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Kalafut is one shy of tying the all-time mark for career doubles at Edgewood College.
- The split doubleheader left the all-time series tied in a 22-22 dead heat.
- Edgewood College has won two of three. The 14 runs in game two was the second-most they recorded in a game in 2023.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround, playing a pair of games tomorrow in Mequon, Wis. Edgewood College hosts a doubleheader against the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons starting at noon. The Falcons hold a 41-33 lead in the series.
