PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad took a non-conference road trip Wednesday. They played against the UW-Platteville Pioneers. The Eagles (16-10) took care of business, cruising to a 10-1 victory over the Pioneers (10-16) as they had stellar days in all facets of the game. Junior
Connor Goodwin broke the program's single-season steals record with his three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a mostly uneventful first two innings, the Eagles struck in the third. A
Joseph Kalafut triple brought in a pair of runs.
- The Pioneers struggled all day, recording three hits and three errors. Their lone run came in the fourth with a single to right field.
- Edgewood College broke the game open in the fifth. A single from
Kyle Prindle through the left side sent two home, while
Brevin Brisack singled to right to leave things at 6-1.
- The Eagles would take on four more insurance runs before the day was done. Prindle walked in a run in the sixth, while a passed ball let Goodwin grab home in the eighth.
Brooks Kalscheur singled a run through the left side in the ninth, while
Dylan Carrington finished the day with a double to left field to finalize the rout.
- Goodwin reached base three times and swiped three bags while accounting for three runs. Prindle was two-for-three at the plate with a pair of walks and three RBIs.
- Grosse was unhittable on the mound, throwing 15 strikeouts in seven innings pitched while allowing two hits and three walks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Goodwin grabbed the program's single-season stolen bases record with his three today. He now sits at 31 for the year, breaking Karl Reynolds record set in 2006. The junior is 11 steals away from breaking the career record.
- Grosse's 15 strikeouts in a single game was one shy of tying the single game mark, set by Dave Scheidell in on May 6, 2022.
- UW-Platteville leads the all-time series 10-9.
