MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles softball squad continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Tuesday. They traveled east to play against the MSOE Raider. The Eagles (14-13, 4-7 NACC) dropped a tough 3-2 loss in game one to the Raider (17-9, 9-3) but bounced back with a 6-5 victory in the second outing.
GAME ONE: MSOE 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- The Eagles struck first in the second inning with an
Elizabeth Malarski double to left center. The Raiders bounced back with the three runs they'd need in the third. An error by the shortstop scored one, while a single to left field with the bases loaded left things at 3-1 after three.
- A double steal in the fourth would wrap up the scoring for the day with
Alyse Maurer nabbing home.
Gaby Slater came up short in the pitcher's duel, tossing a complete game with six hits allowed and a pair of strikeouts.
- Kennedy Lehn was unstoppable in the victory. She fanned 14 Eagles in 23 batters faced.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, MSOE 5
- The Eagles struck early and hard in the second tilt. After
Kya Loffswold swiped home in the first, Edgewood College loaded the bases for an
Olivia Hebert grand slam in the second to put themselves in a 5-0 position.
- The Raiders would slowly creep back into the picture. A single up the middle and a throwing error by the shortstop sent two home. Hebert tallied what turned out to be the winning run with a single to left in the sixth. MSOE rallied in the bottom of the frame, singling in one to center field before a triple to left field scored another. A grounder brought in the triple, leaving the Eagles up 6-5.
- Edgewood College was unable to take advantage of a runner on second with one out, leaving the Raiders a realistic shot at forcing extras in the seventh. They ended up with the tying run on third with two outs, but a grounder to first base closed the door on the rally.
- Hebert had a monster game, hitting two of four with five RBIs. Loffswold accounted for the other run with her steal of home.
-
Grace Pustina earned the win in the start. Her and
Tatum Duff split duties on the day, each allowing four hits and throwing two strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory in game two snapped a five-game losing streak and a six-game losing streak against MSOE.
- The Raiders lead the all-time series 41-25 after the doubleheader split.
- Hebert's five home runs on the season leaves her in a tie for second in the NACC standings as of writing.
