GLENDALE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles ended up traveling for a home doubleheader Tuesday as they continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action. They faced down the MSOE Raiders. The Eagles (15-10, 8-4 NACC) rallied past the Raiders (13-9, 5-7) in a 6-5 game one, but fell to an offensive onslaught in a 11-0 game two that wrapped in seven innings.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, MSOE 5
- Both offenses were kept off the board until the fourth inning kicked things off. A three-run shot from the Raiders followed by a
Cooper Holewinski double down the left field line put the Eagles down 3-2 after four. In the fifth, a
Joseph Kalafut grounder matched a MSOE double to left center to essentially hold serve.
- After the Raiders extended their lead to 5-2 with a single to right center, Edgewood College rallied. Down two,
Kyle Prindle reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed two to score to tie things up at 5-5.
Connor Goodwin reached on a bunt single to third to bring in what turned into the game-winner.
- MSOE threatened to force extras with runners on first and second with a lone out, but were unable to send the tying and winning runs home.
Ryan Mixey earned the victory in relief, while
Leo Stone earned a save.
-
Kyle Sagan proved to be indispensable in the lineup, hitting four-of-five with two runs. Three other Eagles recorded pairs of hits on the afternoon.
GAME TWO: MSOE 11, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (7 inn.)
- Once again the two squads were quiet through the first two innings, but the Raiders struck first and didn't look back in the third. An error by the catcher allowed a runner to score off a bunt single, while a home run to right center left things at 4-0 after three.
- A single to left field followed by a fielder's choice with the bases loaded tacked on a pair, but the Eagles limited the damage. They had no such luck in the sixth, with a single sending one home followed by a three-run shot to right center. A grounder to shortstop put a bow on the scoring and the doubleheader.
- Blake Hall was two-of-four with seven RBIs, while Cobey Alderden was a perfect three-of-three at the plate. Joseph Teschke tossed a complete game gem, fanning seven and allowing four hits.
-
Caden Hough did well in two relief innings, striking out two and allowing a run. Sagan continued to hit well with a two-of-three game two.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory in game one snapped a three-game losing streak against MSOE. The Eagles lead the series 45-23.
- Goodwin now has 28 stolen bases on the year. He entered today's doubleheader sixth in the nation in steals and is now three away from breaking the single-season school record.
- Edgewood College has won two of their last five outings.
- The games were considered home outings for the Eagles. The games were moved due to poor conditions at Stampfl Field.
