KENOSHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad continued their spring 2023 nonconference slate Sunday afternoon. The Eagles faced the Carthage Firebirds in a road tilt. The Firebirds (11-8) won 8-1 with several close victories over the Eagles (12-6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carthage claimed a two of three doubles tilts.
Ellie Murphy and
Cecile Fuchs struggled in a 8-1 loss in the top slot, while
Evelyn Taylor and
Madelyn Connaughty fell 8-5 in slot three.
Jewel Lindwall and
Maddy Coopmans claimed the lone point on the day with an 8-5 win.
- Fuchs battled hard in top singles, but fell 6-4, 7-5. Lindwall fell 6-1, 6-2 as the no. 2 and Taylor dropped in a pair of 6-3 sets as the third seed.
- Murphy hung tough in the fourth slot with a 7-5, 6-4 loss. Coopmans took set one in 6-4 in fifth singles, but dropped 6-4 in set two and fell in the tiebreaker 10-1.
Christina Ekkela rounded out the day with a 6-1, 6-0 loss.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Firebirds hold a 9-1 lead in the all-time series.
- The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Eagles.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head into their last set of tune ups for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Tennis Tournament next week. They start with a Tuesday tilt at UW-Whitewater with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Warhawks hold a 13-0 lead in the all-time series.
