MADISON – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad continued their spring nonconference slate Tuesday night. They hosted the Carroll Pios at TPC Wisconsin. The Eagles (12-5) found themselves in tough matchups up and down the lineup but emerged with a 6-3 win over the Pios (8-11).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College started off in doubles with a 2-1 edge. While
Cecile Fuchs and
Ellie Murphy dropped an 8-4 tilt in top billing,
Jewel Lindwall and
Maddy Coopmans claimed an 8-6 victory in slot two.
Evelyn Taylor and
Madelyn Connaughty wrapped up doubles with a dominant 8-1 showing as the third pair.
- Fuchs fell short of forcing a third set in an exciting first singles matchup, dropping 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). Lindwall found herself in a tough tilt as the no. 2, but won a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 bout.
- Taylor won decisively in a 6-2, 6-2 matchup in third singles. Carroll kept their hopes alive in the no. 4 singles matchup as Murphy dropped 7-5, 6-1.
- Coopmans wrapped up a strong showing with a 6-4, 6-2 clincher as the no. 5.
Christina Ekkela concluded the nightcap with a thriller in sixth billing, a 7-5, 4-6, 10-0 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory tied up the all-time series between the two squads at 3-3.
- The Eagles have won five of six in their spring slate and eight of nine dating back to last fall.

Edgewood College enters a string of road non-conference tilts to end their regular season slate. They play at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in a series the Firebirds lead 8-1.
