Sixth inning rally helps Eagles finish Spring Break with victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad wrapped up their Spring Break trip Saturday morning. The Eagles faced the Grinnell Pioneers to conclude the Studer's Blue Wahoos Stadium Challenge. After a quiet start, the Eagles (6-5) put together a sixth inning rally to push past the Pioneers (2-2) in 6-4 fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team sent a runner home until the fourth inning. Grinnell struck first. A single to right field broke the ice, before a stolen home base and a single to center made it 3-0. The Eagles replied with two runs of their own in the inning. A Joseph Kalafut single to right sent one home, before a Kyle Prindle sacrifice fly left things at 3-2 Pioneers.

- A sacrifice fly in the fifth left Edgewood College down 4-2, but they leapt at their opportunity in the sixth. An early error left two on with now outs, before a Kalafut double sent home an unearned run. A walk and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded gave the Eagles what turned out to be the winning run. A Jacob Carney single to right field sent in an unearned run in the eighth to round out the scoring.

- Kyle Sagan and Kalafut were the stars in the Edgewood College order. Sagan reached base three times while hitting two-of-three and accounting for two runs. Kalafut was the other multi-hit Eagle, swinging two-of-four with two RBIs and a run.

- Kalafut also earned the start on the mound, fanning three Pioneers and allowing only a single hit. Leo Stone earned the victory, pitching a near-perfect 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and no hits or runs allowed.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is now 3-0 against Grinnell.

- Kalafut is now one double away from tying the all-time doubles record. The record is currently 48, set by Travis Krahn from 2001-04.

- The victory snapped a two-game losing skid.

UP NEXT
