PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad continued their trip down south Wednesday. They kicked off the Studer's Blue Wahoos Stadium Challenge. The Eagles (5-3) put together their fifth straight win in dominating fashion, cruising past the Carroll Pioneers (3-2) with a 13-1 victory in eight innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College struck first in the bottom of the first and never looked back. A sacrifice grounder from
Joseph Kalafut sent home one, while a
Cooper Holewinski single brought in another. An error by the shortstop put Carroll on the board in the top of the second inning.
- The Eagles put together a second inning that saw their entire order up to bat. A
Brevin Brisack single with help from an error by the first baseman brought in the first run of the inning.
Ryan Ambrosy stole home, then a
Kyle Sagan double to left center sent Brisack home. A
Connor Goodwin single to center field left things at 6-1 with no outs. A
Kyle Prindle single to field field followed by a
Carson Richter single to center scored two more with the bases loaded. An Ambrosy sacrifice fly rounded out the scoring at 9-1.
- The next six innings were relatively quiet. Ambrosy reached on an error by the third baseman to make it 10-1 after four. Sagan put the finishing touch on the game with a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth.

Nick Manthei threw a complete game gem in the win. He allowed four hits in eight innings pitched and no earned runs.
- Sagan had an impressive day at the plate. He hit two-of-four with three runs, four RBIs, and a walk. Prindle was the other Eagle with two hits on the day, while Ambrosy posted the other multi-hit game. Eight from Edgewood College batted in runs, while seven recorded hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have won five straight since starting the season 0-3.
- The victory snapped a two-game losing streak against the Pioneers. Carroll leads the series 8-4.
- The game was the largest margin of victory Edgewood College has posted this season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles continue their stay down in Florida tomorrow. They battle against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks with first pitch scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The Warhawks lead the series 12-2 with the last meeting coming in 2011.
