HILTON HEAD, S. C. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team won their second straight spring break match, taking down Principia College 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improved their season record to 9-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite taking all three doubles matches and a 3-0 lead to open a lead, the Eagles played tough with the Panthers. At No. 1 doubles, Cecile Fuchs and Madelyn Connaughty earned an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreak victory. Jewel Lindwall and Maddy Coopmans pulled out an 8-5 win in the No. 2 doubles slot, while Ellie Murphy and Christina Ekkela pulled out a convincing 8-2 win in the final doubles slot.
- Fuchs dominated in singles play, earning a strong 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 slot. Ekkela picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Taylor battled it out with Kelsie Huss at No. 3 singles and came away with a huge tiebreak win, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 10-4.
- The Eagles final win came via default in the No. 5 singles slot.
- Principia earned their two wins in singles play. The first win came from Saray Cisneros, who downed Lindwall by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Ellie Murphy battled hard with Veronica Volkart, falling in the No. 4 singles slot 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.
