Eagles win battle of avians against Owls

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Edgewood College Eagles baseball squad continued their Spring Break Friday afternoon. They played against the MUW Owls. The Eagles (2-3) emerged victorious the battle of the avian teams against the Owls (2-7) 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A wild pitch opened the scoring in the third, bringing home Kyle Sagan. Joseph Kalafut followed it up with a solo blast to make it 2-0 Edgewood College after three.

- The Owls evened the game in the bottom of the fourth, a sacrifice fly to center and a single to left tying things up 2-2.

- Edgewood College broke the stalemate in the top of the fifth with a Connor Goodwin single to center field. A passed ball brought home Sagan in the top of the seventh to give them a two-run cushion heading into the final stretch of play.

- A failed pickoff set up a Daniel Bentivegna RBI single to left field to wrap up the scoring at 7-2.

- Four different Eagles recorded RBIs. Jackson DeChristina and Kyle Prindle both recorded a pair of hits and a run.

- Justin Grosse earned the victory in the start, allowing two runs in five innings pitched. The Edgewood College staff combined for eight strikeouts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have won their first two games of their spring trip.

- The victory evened the all-time series at 1-1 against MUW.

- The eight strikeouts were a low for an individual game this season for Edgewood College.

UP NEXT
The Eagles play a doubleheader on Saturday. They participate in a rematch against the Castleton Spartans starting at 1:30 p.m. before battling with host Huntingdon Hawks at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles defeated the Spartans 12-4 on Thursday and are 3-2 against the Hawks in the all-time series.
