MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team dropped a 68-58 NACC contest against Aurora University on Wednesday night inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles struggled offensively through the final two quarters and ended with 23 turnovers in the league setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (14-8, 11-4 NACC) took their largest lead of the contest with 7:31 in the second quarter. The Eagles led by 15 at that point, and went into halftime with a 13-point (36-23) lead. The Eagles recorded 50 percent (7-of-14) shooting in the second quarter and outscored the Spartans 18-13. In the first quarter, the Eagles shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the field and recorded 18 points.
- Aurora University (18-4, 12-3 NACC) played tough defense in the third quarter, holding the Eagles to just nine points. The Spartans also added 18 points and reduced the Eagles lead to just four points (45-41) going into the final ten minutes.
- The Spartans continued to play tough on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter, shooting a game-high 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the floor and holding Edgewood College to just 18.8 percent (3-of-16) shooting. With 8:45 remaining, the Spartans took the lead on a jumper by Gabrielle Wolff and never looked back. Their largest lead of 10 points came with 2:11 left in action.
- The Eagles finished the game with 23 turnovers and shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor. Aurora committed just 13 turnovers, while shooting 32.4 percent (24-of-74) from the floor and 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc.
- Paige Banks led the Eagles with 21 points. Vivian Guerrero added her 11th double-double of the season, notching 13 points and 12 rebounds. Emma Klein recorded nine points and a game-high five assists. Auto Thomas pulled down six rebounds.
THE OPPOSITION
- Four Spartans scored in double-digits on Wednesday. Selena Vargas, Sam Barrett, and Crystal Rios each notched 12 points. Gabrielle Wolff added 10 points.
- Vargas and Rios recorded double-doubles, pulling down 14 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
- Wolff and Barrett each dished out three assists. Vargas and Rios recorded three steals each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Spartans snapped the Eagles nine game streak that began on January 7.
