ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team put together a 72-57 win over Rockford University on Wednesday evening. The Eagles continued their conference winning streak, thanks to a strong effort from the Eagles starting five, who combined for 63 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was an equal first quarter from both the Eagles and Regents. Through the first 10 minutes, Rockford University (2-4, 0-2 NACC) took a 20-18 lead, partially in thanks to reaching the free-throw line on three occasions.
- Edgewood College (3-4, 2-0 NACC) came storming back in the second quarter, quickly taking the lead with six-straight points from Kallie Norby to open the quarter. The Eagles took advantage of strong scoring and defense to outscore the Regents 18-6 and take a 36-26 lead into halftime.
- The Eagles continued to dominate in the third quarter, shooting a game-high 75 percent (9-of-12) from the floor. Edgewood College went on an 8-1 run through the middle of the quarter to take a 25 point lead (59-34), their highest of the contest.
- Rockford would make things interesting in the final 10 minutes of the contest, holding the Eagles to just 12 points, all coming from the charity stripe and adding 10 points of their own.
- Norby was stellar for the Eagles on Wednesday night, she went 11-of-12 from the floor to collect 24 points. She pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists.
- Vivian Guerrero collected an 18 rebound, 15 points double-double. She also recorded four blocks and a steal for the Eagles.
- Kenzie Senffner recorded 10 points, seven of them coming from the charity stripe. Jayden Nortier dished out seven assists and recorded nine points.
THE OPPOSITION
- Tyra Clark led the Regents with 11 points and four rebounds.
- D'Asia Washington pulled down 14 rebounds, 13 of them on the offensive side of the ball. She added eight points, six coming from the charity stripe.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College has not opened NACC play with a 2-0 record since the 2020-21 season.
- The Eagles improve their all-time record vs Rockford to 29-9.
