NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team traveled to Illinois for the final time in 2023 to take on the North Central Cardinals in non-conference action. North Central came away with the 71-53 victory on Saturday afternoon. Vivian Guerrero was impressive for the Eagles, collecting a career-best 25 points and adding 16 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Central (5-6) jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead with 5:31 on the clock thanks to a 12-1 run through the beginning of the first quarter. Guerrero netted an impressive 13 points, which included a three-pointer in the first 10 minutes. Despite Guerrero's impressive scoring, it wasn't enough to catch up with the Cardinals, who led Edgewood College (3-5) 22-16 after the first quarter.
- Edgewood College reduced the North Central lead to just two at halftime (32-30) thanks to a 14-point second quarter. The Eagles held the Cardinals shooting to just 20 percent (4-of-20) from the floor, their lowest of the afternoon.
- The Cardinals flipped the script on the Eagles, scoring 17 points to just 11 from Edgewood College in the third quarter. A 10-4 run to start the third quarter was all North Central needed to boost their confidence. The Cardinals led the Eagles 49-41 with just ten minutes remaining.
- North Central didn't let up in the final 10 minutes of action, shooting a 61.54 percent (8-of-13) from the floor and 85.71 percent (6-of-7) from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Despite three-point makes from Molly Garrity and Kenzie Senffner in the final quarter, the Cardinals managed to take a double-digit lead and not look back.
- North Central led Edgewood College in both rebounds and steals on the afternoon. The Cardinals pulled down 41 rebounds, compared to just 32 by the Eagles. In addition, North Central managed a whopping 12 steals, to just five from Edgewood College.
- Guerrero led the Eagles with a career-best 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor. She added 16 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
- Senffner added nine points, connecting from beyond the arc twice on Saturday.
- Grace Vesperman dished out a team-high five assists.
THE OPPOSITION
- Jocelyn Trotter led the Cardinals with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. Megan McClure added 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
- 13 of 14 players for North Central pulled down a rebound, with Jovanna Martinucci, Elle Sutter, and Biz Daley leading with five rebounds each.

- Edgewood College will return to the Todd Wehr Edgedome for one final time in 2023. The Eagles will host Carthage College in non-conference action on Tuesday, December 19. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.
