Eagles fall to No. 2 Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Edgewood College Eagles battled with No. 2 and defending national champion Transylvania on Friday afternoon at the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament. The Eagles put on a show in the third quarter, scoring 21 points and holding the Pioneers to just four points to tie the game going into the fourth quarter. Kallie Norby, Jayden Nortier, and Vivian Guerrero each scored in double-digits on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Transylvania University (10-0) opened the first quarter on a 12-0 run. Edgewood College (3-7) would scrap together six points, but the Pioneers took a 20-6 advantage into the second quarter.

- The Eagles settled in during the second quarter, scoring 11 points and holding Transylvania to 14 points and just 27.78 percent shooting (5-of-18). Transylvania took a 34-17 lead into halftime.

- Coming out of halftime, Edgewood College showed their dynamic defense, holding the Pioneers to just four points in the third quarter. The Eagles battled back scoring a whopping 21 points and shooting 75 percent (9-of-12) coming out of the break. Jayden Nortier scored four points in the final minutes of the quarter to tie the game a 38 apiece.  

- Transylvania dropped a whopping 24 points in the final quarter shooting a game-high 43.75 percent (7-of-16) from the floor for the victory. The Eagles could only manage eight points in the final 10 minutes.

- Norby led the Eagles with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Jayden Nortier and Vivian Guerrero each added 11 points on the afternoon. Nortier added six rebounds and dished out five assists. Guerrero pulled down nine rebounds for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Dasia Thornton led the defending national champions with a 14 rebound, 12 point double-double. Nine of her 14 rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball. In addition, she collected three steals.

- Sadie Wurth collected 12 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out six assists.

- Laken Ball joined Thornton and Wurth in double digit scoring with 11 points.

- Edgewood College will face Berea on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET in their final game at the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament.
