MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team hosted non-conference opponent Carthage College on Tuesday evening. In their final time in the Todd Wehr Edgedome in 2023, the Eagles fell to the Firebirds, 85-48.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carthage College (8-4) jumped out to a 19-6 lead just seven minutes into the first quarter. The Eagles would score 11 points to end the quarter just two points behind the Firebirds (19-17). The offensive spark thanks three-straight three-point makes from the Eagles.
- The Firebirds continued to pour on the offensive attack, scoring 19 points in the second quarter and silencing the Eagles to just six points. Carthage took a 38-23 lead into halftime, thanks in part to consistent shooting and defensive press.
- Edgewood College (3-6) would get within 13 points (40-27) of the Firebirds thanks to a jumper by Grace Vesperman with 7:07 on the clock in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Eagles streaky shooting down the stretch allowed the Firebirds to run away with the victory. Edgewood College only managed a 17.65 shooting percentage (3-of-17) in the final quarter.
- Kallie Norby and Vivian Guerrero both finished with 14 points for the Eagles. Guerrero pulled down seven rebounds, while Norby managed six.
- Grace Vesperman dished out a team-high three rebounds and added eight points.
THE OPPOSITION
- Addison Ebeling led the Firebirds with a 13 point, 10 rebound double-double. Lauren Knight posted 16 points and dished out three assists. Marianna Morrissey and Grace Wamser joined Ebeling and Knight in double-digit scoring with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
- Carthage shot 50 percent (33-for-66) from the floor on the evening. Their best quarter of shooting came in the fourth, as they recorded 62.50 percent shooting (10-for-16), and went 50 percent (4-for-8) from beyond the arc.
