MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team fell short in a close contest with the University of Dubuque. Ultimately, the Eagles fell 71-61 at home on Saturday. Jayden Nortier led the Eagles attack, while Moli Haak recorded her first career double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (1-4) playing at home for just the second time this season, traded the lead with the University of Dubuque (4-1) nine times on Saturday. The Eagles strongest shooting came in the fourth quarter, as they went 8-for-14 from the floor, good for 57.14 percent. The Eagles defense was on display in the second quarter, as they held the Spartans to just six points.
-The Eagles took an early 6-0 lead, not allowing the Spartans to score through the first three minutes of action. Once Dubuque got going, they would score a whopping 24 points and take a 24-13 lead into the second quarter.
- Edgewood College held Dubuque to just 33.33 percent shooting in the second quarter and just six points scored. The Eagles went on a 9-2 run through the final four minutes to trail the Spartans by one point (30-29) going into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, the Eagles outscored the Spartans 9-7 and took a brief 38-37 lead. Despite playing a close quarter, Dubuque took a 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Both the Eagles and Spartans shot their best in the fourth quarter, but turnovers would haunt Edgewood College in the end.
- Moli Haak recorded a career-best 12 rebounds and 10 points for her first career double-double.
- Jayden Nortier dropped 23 points, shooting 10-of-20 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. She also dished out a career-best seven assists through 37 minutes.
- Kenzie Senffner recorded 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
- Vesperman added five assists and five steals for the Eagles.
THE OPPOSITION
- Tabria Thomas led the Spartans with 24 points. Morgan Hawkins added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
- Thomas, Megan Teal, and Samantha McDonald each recorded three steals. Dubuque notched a whopping 16 steals on the afternoon.
