CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad hit the road for a non-conference affair Saturday afternoon. They battled with the Coe Kohawks. The Kohawks (6-1) were too much to handle, earning a 98-56 victory over the Eagles (0-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College hung tough in the opening minutes of the affair. A three pointer from
Trey Traeder gave them a slim 5-4 edge as they kept within a possession of Coe for the first 11 minutes of action.
- They were unable to break through, however, and the Kohawks pieced together a 13-5 rally for their largest lead of the half 42-29 with 3:01 left. They headed into the locker room up 46-35.
- Coe dominated in the paint to the tune of 32-18 in the frame. Both teams had strong halves offensively, with the Kohawks shooting 67.86 (19-of-28) percent from the floor and the Eagles 50 (14-of-28) percent.
- Coe continued their potent offensive performance into the second half while Edgewood College went cold. A 31-10 advantage in the first ten minutes of the final frame had the hosts ahead 76-45. They would lead by as much as 44 points before the final horn on route to an impressive victory.
- The Eagles struggled to find baskets in the frame, shooting 29.63 percent (8-of-27) from the floor and going 0-of-7 beyond the arc.
- Bennett Sherry and Josh Schloe scored 22 points apiece for the Kohawks. Cael Schmitt had 13 points and five steals, while TJ Schnurr tallied 15 points.
- Coe had a 26-5 advantage in points off turnovers in the win.

Dillon Garthwaite finished with a team-high 10 points for Edgewood College, while
Luke Cervelli earned nine points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Garthwaite's 10 points were a career-best for the sophomore.

The Eagles will return to the Todd Wehr Edgedome Wednesday night to open Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. They will battle with the Marian Sabres with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. Edgewood College won the 2022-23 version of the matchup 88-69 at home and holds a 49-35 lead in the all-time series.
