MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles men's basketball squad opened Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Wednesday night. They hosted the Marian Sabres at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles (1-4, 1-0 NACC) used a barrage of threes in the second half to put the Sabres (0-5, 0-2) away in 67-54 fashion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams jockeyed for control of the game through the first ten minutes. An and-one by
Trey Traeder followed by a three-pointer from
AC Strok gave the Eagles the first real edge of the night.
- While the Sabres would battle back to even and single possession scores, they were unable to overtake Edgewood College in the half. The Eagles would finish off the half with a 12-6 edge in the last 10 minutes for a 28-21 lead into the locker rooms.
- Edgewood College would lead by as much as nine in the opening 10 of the second frame, but a 10-2 rally by Marian would close the lead to a 36-35 knife's edge with 11:42 to play.
Cade Ellingson played a pivotal role in putting the threat to bed, hitting three shots beyond the arc in a 13-5 reply to hold a 49-40 advantage with 7:57 left to play.
- Back-to-back three pointers by
Payton Bowser pushed the Edgewood College lead to 55-42. The advantage would stay in the double digits for the rest of the night, with the Eagles cutting down all Sabre efforts on their way to their first victory of the season.
- Five players scored nine or more points for Edgewood College. Bowser and Ellingson scored nine each, while
Danny Mulcare played a pivotal role in the paint with 12 points.
- Traeder led all Eagles with 14 points, while tacking on seven rebounds and a pair of steals.

Drew Houtakker had team highs with eight rebounds and five assists while putting home 12 points.
- Edgewood College earned a 27-to-22 advantage in bench points and a .462-to-.361 edge in field goal percentage.
- Sam Gringras paced Marian with 10 points. JeanLuc Wilson grabbed seven rebounds for the visitors.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory was head coach
Justin Meyer's 100th as head coach of the program.
- Bowser's nine points were a career best for the sophomore.
- The Eagles hold a 50-35 lead in the all-time series against the Sabres and have won back-to-back at the Edgedome.
