Eagles conclude NACC slate with authoritative sweep of Cougars

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's tennis squad wrapped up their fall slate Wednesday at Quann Park. They hosted the Concordia Chicago Cougars in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) finale. The Eagles (8-3, 8-1 NACC) dispatched the Cougars (2-10, 2-5) with a dominant 9-0 victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College dropped only two points in doubles. Jewel Lindwall and Maddy Coopmans teamed up as the top doubles pair and excelled in 8-1 fashion. Ellie Murphy and Madelyn Connaughty followed up in no. 2 doubles with an 8-0 match, while Evelyn Taylor and Christina Ekkela teamed up for an 8-0 sweep through third doubles.

- Lindwall continued to roll in her elevated role in singles. She put the Eagles on the doorstep of clinching with a 6-1, 6-0 win as the no. 1 singles player. Taylor put a bow on the match with a 6-1, 6-3 affair in the second singles slot to clinch the victory in the NACC and fall finale.
 
- Murphy kept the good times rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 win in third singles. Coopmans was nearly perfect, winning 6-1, 6-0 as the no. 4.

- Ekkela and Cassie Henderson wrapped up the match with authority, posting identical 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in no. 5 and no. 6 singles respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is now 16-0 against Concordia Chicago, having won each match by a 7-2 or better margin.

- Lindwall is 2-0 as the top singles player for the Eagles. She is also 10-2 alongside Maddy Coopmans in doubles.

- Edgewood College has won four in a row, each by a 9-0 tally.

UP NEXT
The Eagles take a break for the winter after finishing NACC play with an 8-1 record, good for second in the conference. They will begin their spring 2024 slate by hosting the Dubuque Spartans. The match is scheduled for Saturday, February 3 in Madison, Wis. with time and location to be determined.
