Eagles soar past Stars for fourth-straight victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad continued their end of season conference slate Thursday evening. They played their second-to-last regular season Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) match versus the Dominican Stars. The Eagles (18-7, 11-1 NACC) put together a dominant third set to sweep the Stars (12-12, 5-6) in 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-14) fashion.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dominican shone brightly in the early going of set one, five unanswered fueling a 12-7 lead. Errors from the Stars and the Edgewood College offense in sync fueled a 10-3 rally to push the Eagles ahead 19-17. A 5-1 run from Edgewood College would clinch a 1-0 match lead.
 
- Nine kills in an 11-3 opener sent the Eagles soaring in set two. The Stars put together an impressive 10-1 response in the middle of the frame to close within 19-18, but six unanswered in all facets of the game closed the book on a 2-0 match lead.
 
- Edgewood College surged past the Stars with a 20-5 bombardment in the third and final set to close the books on their 11th NACC victory of the season. The Eagles were dominant, outhitting Dominican .435 to .100 and recording only two attack errors in the set.
   
- Edgewood College finished with a .306 hitting percentage as a team. They also held an 8-to-2 block advantage over the Stars.
 
- Abigail Hoffmann once again headlined the night with a 10-kill, 9-dig, 22-assist performance. She also finished with a .455 hitting percentage on 22 attempts.
 
- Abbey Falk continued to be proficient at blocking with seven on the evening.
 
- Zoee Pond swung for nine kills, while Ashley Bruehlman finished with eight kills and 11 digs on the night.
 
- Jennacy Wille anchored the defense with 11 digs and Abbey Eivins the offense with 10 assists.
 
- Cassidy Spies put in a strong night for Dominican, hitting 14 kills and four service aces.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The .306 hitting percentage as a squad was the Eagles' best of the season.
 
- The victory broke a tie in the all-time series, with Edgewood College now holding a 13-12 lead with five wins in a row.
 
- The Eagles have won 14 of their last 17 matches after starting the season 4-4.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College continues their road trip Saturday as they play their last road triangular of the season. They play conference rival MSOE Raiders at noon for their regular season NACC finale, before battling with the Augustana Vikings at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles hold a 39-14 lead in all-time matches versus the Raiders, while they have a 4-4 record against the Vikings.
