Eagles, Sabres settle for tie

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team continued conference play on Saturday night with a 2-2 tie with Marian University. The draw goes down as the third of the season, and the first with multiple goals scored. Goalkeepers from both sides kept offensive hopes alive, with eight of 11 saves made in the second half of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three of four goals on Saturday night between Edgewood College (8-7-3, 4-5-2 NACC) and Marian University (3-8-4, 1-7-4 NACC) came in the first 45 minutes of action. The Sabres started things off, scoring their first goal just 1:27 into the contest. Isak Olsson took advantage of a corner kick just one minute into action, scoring from the far post to take a 1-0 lead.

- Marian would go up 2-0 with under two minutes remaining in the first half, with Nathan Blazenko finding the back of the net off of a bicycle kick off the left post.

- Just when it looked like the 2-0 Sabre lead would stand into halftime, Conor Bruce found the back of the net as the buzzer sounded off of a free kick.

- Edgewood College went into second half looking to tie things up. Miguel Konde Gwo did just that in the 67th minute. Konde Gwo sent a ball off the crossbar and into the net, assisted by Drew Jarstad.

- Neither team managed to find the back of the net in the final 24 minutes. The Eagles managed five shots through the end of the contest, with just one on goal.

- Maverick Van Laanen recorded three saves for the Eagles in net. His counterpart, Gijs Koopmans made six saves on the evening.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Konde Gwo is now two goals short of tying the season goals record set by Garrett Lee in 2017. His 14th goal on Saturday night puts him in a four-way tie for sixth most goals in a season.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to St. Norbert College on Wednesday in the regular season finale. Action is set for 7:00 p.m. from De Pere, Wis.
