RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Coming off of two conference losses, the Edgewood College men's soccer team needed a victory in order to keep postseason hopes alive. The Eagles rose to the challenge, defeating Concordia Chicago by a triumphant 8-1 final. Six different Eagles combined for the eight goals, that goes down as the most goals scored since the 2018 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoring began for Edgewood College (8-7-2, 4-5-1 NACC) in the sixth minute, as Noah Hook took advantage of perfect passes from Conor Bruce and Miguel Konde Gwo to net his third goal of the season. Just five minutes later, Sal Genco would score the second Eagle goal. With just 15 minutes gone in the first half, the Eagles took a 3-0 lead off another goal from Hook, this time assisted by Aldon Lumani.
- The Eagles scoring continued to roll, as Miguel Konde Gwo got in on the action in the 21st minute, scoring his 12th goal of the season. Elliah Tameklo would make it a 5-0 contest in the 39th minute, a score that would stand through to halftime.
- Coming out of the break, the Eagles continued to add to their tally. In the 49th minute, Leo Krause scored his first goal as an Eagle, assisted by Lumani. Konde Gwo netted his second goal of the afternoon, this time assisted by Austin Hauser to make it a 7-0 contest.
- Concordia Chicago (0-15-0, 0-11-0 NACC) scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 66th minute. Joseph Perez found the back of the net to make the score 7-1.
- Ray Walsh wrapped up the scoring for Edgewood College, netting his first career goal, assisted by Janis Meza Zelaya.
- Edgewood College outshot Concordia Chicago 20-18 on the afternoon. Konde Gwo led the Eagles with six shots, three on goal, two goals, and an assist.
- Maverick Van Laanen earned the start in goal for Edgewood College, making two saves through 25 minutes on the pitch. Jonathan Wind took over from there, making a career-best five saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory goes down as the biggest win for the Edgewood College men's soccer program since Saturday, September 15 when the Eagles defeated Ripon 8-1.
- Lumani's three assists ties the program individual game record for assists. Most interestingly, head coach Tim Bruner achieved three assists in a game on two different occasions during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
- The Eagles 23 points recorded goes down as the eighth most in single game program history.
