MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team continued their streak of 9-0 NACC wins with another easy victory on Sunday. The Eagles hosted Illinois Tech and made quick work of the Scarlet Hawks with a 9-0 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In doubles play, the Eagles dominated, winning all three matches by a combined score of 24-1. No. 3 doubles partners Madelyn Connaughty and Ellie Murphy made quick work and earned an 8-0 victory. Almost simultaneously, the pairing of Jewel Lindwall and Maddy Coopmans earned another 8-0 win in the No. 2 doubles slot. Cecile Fuchs and Evelyn Taylor continued to play well, carving out an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
- Fuchs and Cassie Henderson both recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play, Fuchs at the No. 1 spot and Henderson, No. 6 singles.
- Coopmans played extremely confident at the No. 4 singles slot. She took down her opponent Ashley Dame by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
- Christina Ekkela earned the win at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 score. Taylor wrapped up her 2-0 day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
- Lindwall battled it out at No. 2 singles, earning a 7-5, 6-0 win over Sofia Zaballa Martinez.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Coopmans, Ekkela, and Henderson all continued their winning streaks in NACC play. Coopmans has a combined 13-0 record in conference matches this season.
UP NEXT
- With a spot in the NACC Tournament already clinched, the Edgewood College women's tennis team will look to solidify the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a victory over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday. Action is set for 4:30 p.m. from Quann Park.
