Eagles hold off Raiders for first win of 2023

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team earned their first victory of 2023 on Saturday, defeating MSOE 64-49. The Eagles earned the win behind a double-double from Vivian Guerrero.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Guerrero was dominant on Saturday, leading Edgewood College (6-7, 3-3 NACC) with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting. The sophomore pulled down 11 rebounds for the Eagles through 28 minutes of action. Guerrero also added three blocks.

- The first quarter saw three lead changes, as early three-point makes was key for MSOE (3-10, 2-4 NACC). Ultimately the Eagles took the lead with 2:20 on the clock and led by six points (19-13) going into the second quarter.

- Edgewood College finally found a rhythm on offense and knocked down consistent shooting through the second period. The Eagles outscored the Raiders 16-12 in the second quarter and took a ten-point (35-25) advantage into halftime.

- The Eagles recorded their best performance coming out of the break, knocking down 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the floor and 2-of-5 (40 percent) from beyond the arc in the third quarter. In addition, the Eagles held the Raiders to just seven points and took a 19-point advantage into the final ten minutes of action.

- Guerrero collected her fourth double-double of the season. Paige Banks added nine points and four assists on the afternoon. Sydney Ignoffo recorded her best performance of the season, with eight points, four rebounds, and three assists.

- Edgewood College dominated the game from short range, scoring 42 points in the paint. In contrast, MSOE scored 18 of their 49 points in the paint.

- The Eagles finished the contest shooting 47.4 percent from the floor.

THE OPPOSITION
- Mahima Chokshi led the Raiders with 15 points and three steals. Nina Perl added 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

- MSOE recorded a shooting percentage of 28.3 (17-of-60).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles have now won six straight against MSOE and lead the all-time series 50-13.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will return home for the first time in over a month to host Benedictine on Wednesday. Action from the Todd Wehr Edgedome is set for 7:00 p.m.
