MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team returned to the Todd Wehr Edgedome for the first time in 32 days and put on a show, defeating Benedictine University 77-55. The conference match-up was key, as both teams entered Wednesday night with a 3-3 record in NACC play. Four Edgewood College players scored in double-figures as they dominated short range shooting and earned their second-straight victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a back-and-forth contest through the first four minutes of action, but a 11-2 run gave Edgewood College (7-7, 4-3 NACC) the edge in the battle of the Eagles. Edgewood College took a six-point lead (20-14) into the second quarter.
- Edgewood College displayed both offensive and defensive composure in the second period, scoring 18 points and holding Benedictine University (3-10, 3-4 NACC) to just 10 points and a 21.4 shooting (3-of-14) percentage from the floor. Edgewood College went into halftime leading Benedictine 38-24 after shooting 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the floor in the second quarter.
- Edgewood College never let up, scoring a game-high 22 points in the third quarter and extending their lead to 21 points going into the final 10 minutes of action. Seven different players contributed to the scoring effort in the third quarter, as Edgewood College recorded a game-high 56.3 percent shooting (9-of-16).
- The biggest lead for Edgewood College came with 3:12 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. A layup from Auto Thomas secured the 27-point (75-48) advantage.
- Eden Bonser was a threat off the bench and led Edgewood College with a career-high 19 points, connecting on 6-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Bonser also pulled down seven rebounds, tying her career-best. Kallie Norby contributed 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Norby added six rebounds and three blocks. Paige Banks notched 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and was a threat from mid-distance. Vivian Guerrero notched her fifth double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds and adding 10 points. Emma Klein shared the ball well, dishing out a game-high five assists.
- Edgewood College scored a whopping 54 points in the paint on Wednesday night. 10 players contributed to the scoring effort and 32 points came off the bench. In addition, 29 points were scored off fast breaks, in comparison to just two points for Benedictine.
THE OPPOSITION
- Brilan McCory led the way for Benedictine, scoring 16 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Sierra Skack added nine points and four rebounds.
- Makenzie Carroll, Jordan Carlquist, and Chloe Drozdz each dished out two assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Home court advantage is key for Edgewood College. A 49.3 shooting percentage ties their third highest of the season, which they set 32 days ago in the Todd Wehr Edgedome against Alverno College.
- This is the first time Edgewood College has won a game without making a three-point shot since January 9, 2016, and the first time under Head Coach Chaia Huff.Â
- Bonser combined confidence in the paint and from the free-throw line for a career-high 19 points.
- Thomas was key for Edgewood College in the final 10 minutes of action. The freshman recorded a career-best six points, going 3-for-3 from the floor and pulling down four rebounds.
