VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team fell to Trinity International University 4-1 in their home opener. The Eagles scored first, as Austin Hauser scored the first Eagles goal of the 2022 season at Edgewood College Field at Reddan Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (0-2-1) scored first, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute. Austin Hauser perfectly converted a corner kick from Owen Kauffeld via header. The Eagles attack would add one more shot before Trinity International University (1-1-0) would respond with their first goal.
- The Trojans notched their first goal of the match in the 18th minute. The score wouldn't stay tied at one for long, as a goal from TK Garside just three minutes later gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
- The Eagles managed four of their six shots in the second half, but struggled to get anything going offensively as the Trojan offense was fast paced and relentless. Gage Ploessl added two shots for Edgewood College.
- Ty Bienema was outstanding in goal for Edgewood College. The junior recorded eight saves, which ties his career-best performances, and was crucial in keeping Trinity International within reach. With just under one-minute remaining in the first half the Trojans would receive a penalty kick following a foul in the box. Bienema made the tough save, stopping the penalty kick with a perfectly timed dive to his left.
- Ultimately, the speedy Trojans were too much for the Eagles on Wednesday night. TK Garside would notch a hat trick in the second half, scoring his second and third goals of the match to give Trinity International a 4-1 lead.
