ALBION, Mich. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team fell to Albion 5-0 on Saturday. In non-conference action the Eagles struggled to stop the Britons attack despite a strong effort in goal from Ty Bienema.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Albion (1-1-0) attack got going early and never stopped on Saturday morning. The Britons took a 1-0 lead in the first period and added a second goal in the 21st minute, for a 2-0 lead at halftime. Riley Folk found the back of the net for Albion first, assisted by Stefan Isaevski. Grady Lycan added the second goal, unassisted.
- Edgewood College (0-1-1) took four shots through the first 45 minutes of action. Just 13 minutes in, it looked like the Eagles offense was making progress. Sal Genco and Jonathan Alfaro took back-to-back shots, but neither connected. Connor Thompson added a shot in the 40th minute, which would go down as the only shot on goal for the Eagles.
- Bienema was crucial in goal for Edgewood College. The junior made seven saves, six in the first period, and was a huge part of keeping the Eagles in the match.
- After the break, Albion notched three goals. The fifth Briton goal came in the 81st minute from Roberto Villarreal, solidifying the shutout.
- Thompson led the Eagles attack with two shots, while Ian Plecha, Alfaro, and Genco each added one shot.
