MADISON, Wis. – On an overcast afternoon at Goodman Sports Complex the Edgewood College men's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 4-1 loss to Finlandia University. Despite scoring in the first half, the Eagles couldn't hold off the speedy Lions on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Finlandia University (3-2-3) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Chinedu Ikem scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Alexis Murillo in the sixth minute of action. The Lions would score again in the 30th minute, as Murillo netted a goal of his own to take a 2-0 lead.
- Two early goals were the wakeup the Eagles needed, as they responded just eight minute later with a goal of their own. Sal Genco found the back of the net for the first time this season, converting a pass from Ty Johnson to bring the score to 2-1, in favor of Finlandia.
- Just before the break, Finlandia began man-down play, after receiving a red card. The Eagles only played with the one player advantage for six minutes, before receiving a red card of their own, bringing the players on the field level once again.
- Finlandia would find the back of the net twice more before the end of 90 minutes, as Christian Mendoza-Huynh and Mohamed Koroma beat out the Eagles defenders for the third and fourth goals of the afternoon.
- Five different Eagles players took two shots each (Drew Jarstad, Will Thesing, Owen Kauffeld, Sal Genco, Hunter Collins). The Eagles and Lions were almost even in shots taken, 13-12, respectfully.
- Brendan Christian made five saves on the afternoon, in net for the Lions. Jack Gentner spent 82 minutes in goal for the Eagles, making one save, while Ty Bienema notched two saves over eight minutes in net.
