MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women's volleyball squad opened the Edgedome for the 2022 season Tuesday night. They hosted Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) foe Marian Sabres. The Eagles (6-4, 1-1 NACC) controlled the entire match against the Sabres (4-10, 1-1) as they earned a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marian's only lead in the first set was the opening point. Edgewood College took a commanding lead off of a 6-0 rally. A small Sabre 3-0 run would put them within two, but a 9-2 run put the Eagles up 15-6 and in complete control of the first frame.
- Edgewood College blew past Marian immediately in set two, a 13-1 sprint to start the frame nearly matching the Sabres' 14 points for the entire set.
- The final set of the match started similarly, with the Eagles taking a 10-3 edge early. An 8-4 run by Marian proved they had some fight left in them as Edgewood College only lead 14-11. The Eagles would not be deterred, as an 8-2 burst put the set and match effectively away.
-
Katie Borchert came just one shy of her career high in kills with 13 in one less set than her 14-kill match against Concordia Wisconsin. She posted a .591 attack percentage on 22 attempts with no errors.
-
Taylor Salmon contributed to offense and defense with a 16 assist and 12 dig double-double. Fellow setter
Abigail Hoffmann came just shy of a double-double herself with nine kills and nine assists.
- Three Eagles had two aces each, with
Amanda Carlson,
Hannah Siebert, and
Lea Bunch contributing to the barrage.
- Edgewood College outhit the Sabres .325 to .021 in the sweep.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The match was the 19th straight victory for the Eagles over Marian. The Eagles now lead the series 29-23 since 1991.
- Borchert's .591 attack percentage qualified as the third-highest by any Edgewood College hitter in a single match in school history.
