MADISON, Wis. – Constant rain and cool temperatures didn't phase the Edgewood College women's soccer team as they defeated UW-Superior 4-0. The Eagles struck once in the first half and poured on three more goals in the second half for the non-conference victory on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lauren Clark got things going early for Edgewood College (4-1) finding the back of the net in the 20th minute off a corner kick from Leah Doucette. Clark's goal goes down as her first as an Eagle.
- It was back and forth for the rest of the first period, as UW-Superior (0-2-2) and Edgewood College split possession time. The Yellowjackets notched five of their seven total shots in the first half, while the Eagles took eight shots before halftime.
- Edgewood College came out of the break full of excitement, as Greta Blau made it 2-0 with her second goal of the season, just 31 seconds into the second period.
- Marley Satran added the Eagles third goal of the afternoon, assisted by Rylee Brotz in the 58th minute.
- Kamy Luecke solidified the victory for Edgewood College in the 81st minute, converting a corner kick from Reese Meszaros.
- 10 different Eagles took a shot in the win. Edgewood College outshot UW-Superior 21-7 on the afternoon.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 4-1 start to the season is the best since the 2012 season, where they got off to a 7-1 start. The 2012 Eagles squad finished runner-up in the NACC Tournament during the 2012 season and finished with a record of 15-4-1, 11-1 NACC.
- The Eagles and Yellowjackets are now 1-1 in the all-time series. The two teams met for the first time in 2021, where Superior came away with the 2-1 win in double overtime.
