Eagles sweep Scarlet Hawks in Regular Season Finale

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College Baseball team ended the regular season with a four-game winning streak, sweeping Illinois Tech in a NACC doubleheader on Saturday. The Eagles battled back-and-forth with the Scarlet Hawks in the opener, winning 9-8, before completing the sweep with a dominant 13-1 final in seven innings.

EAGLES 9, SCARLET HAWKS 8 (GAME ONE)
- Illinois Tech (9-31, 5-19 NACC) took an early 3-0 lead through two innings. The Scarlet Hawks plated two runs in the first inning and added a run in the second. Edgewood College (21-19, 12-12) resonded in the third inning, scoring five runs and taking a 5-3 lead. The Eagles took advantage of errors from the Scarlet Hawks defense, as Connor Goodwin and Alex Prindle crossed the plate for the Eagles first two runs. Kyle Sagan would come around to score the third from the Edgewood College, advancing when Max Hoeser was hit by a pitch. A single from Ryan Ambrosy plated two later in the inning.

- Illinois Tech scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, taking the lead back, 6-5 after five frames.

- The Eagles scored twice in the sixth frame and took their lead back, 7-6. Sagan knocked an RBI single to right center field to tie things up. Jacob Slonim singled later in the inning and Sagan came across on an error for the go ahead run. A two-run single from Jackson DeChristini would give the Eagles a 9-6 lead.

- Ambrosy, Prindle, Sagan, Joseph Kalafut, and Slonim each knocked two hits for the Eagles. Sagan, Kalafut, and Slonim each hit doubles in game one.

- Nick Holland earned the win for the Eagles, pitching 3.1 innings and striking out three batters. Connor Dunfee recorded the save, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out two.

EAGLES 13, SCARLET HAWKS 1 – 7 INNINGS (GAME TWO)
- It was all Edgewood College in the nightcap. The Eagles took a 5-0 lead through four innings. The Eagles scored runs in five of seven frames. Prindle scored the first run for the Eagles as Sagan doubled down the right field line in the third inning. Kalafut plated Sagan for the 3-0 lead through the end of three innings. Tim Kelly scored on an error in the fourth inning for the Eagles. Max Hoeser scored as well in the fourth inning.

- Kalafut scored the Eagles lone run in the fifth inning, blasting his fourth home run of the season over the right field fence.

- The Eagles tacked on three runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh for the run-rule victory.

- Eight different Eagles recorded a hit in the nightcap, totaling 12 hits. Sagan led the Eagles at the plate, going 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs, one run, and a double. Kalafut and Slonim each knocked two hits. Kalafut added 2 RBIs and a home run. Slonim and Prindle both hit doubles.

- Kyle Jungers had a standout game on the mound for the Eagles. Jungers pitched six innings and struck out seven batters while allowing just one run and scattering five hits. Ben Collier came on in the seventh inning and struck out one batter.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Dunfee now owns the record for most saves in a season in program history. His sixth save in game one passes four Eagle pitcher who recorded five saves in one season.

- The Eagles now own 12 NACC wins on the season. The last time the Eagles recorded 12 wins was the 2015 season. In 2015 the Eagles finished third in NACC play with a 12-8 record and played in the NACC Tournament.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will wait for other NACC contests to play out before finding out if they will earn a spot in the NACC Tournament. After Saturday's conference action the Eagles sit in a tie for fifth in the conference standings with Concordia Wisconsin. The top six teams in the conference will advance to the NACC Tournament which will be played at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wis. Thursday, May 12-15.
