MEQUON, Wis. – A number of errors and lost opportunities added up to an Edgewood College loss in the opening game of the NACC Baseball Tournament at Kapco Park. The Eagles took a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but St. Norbert would come back to score runs in the second, third, and fourth innings and take a 7-3 lead after four frames. In the end, the Eagles fell to St. Norbert 7-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (21-20) got off to a solid start at the plate. Alex Prindle led off with a single to center field. Connor Goodwin added a single to right field, and a bunt single from Kyle Sagan loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. Prindle would score in the next at-bat, diving across home on a wild pitch. Joseph Kalafut plated Goodwin for the Eagles second run, and Jacob Slonim scored Sagan for the 3-0 lead.
- St. Norbert College scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie things up. The Green Knights scored three runs on one hit. The Green Knights would go on to score twice in the fourth inning, one run unearned. St. Norbert took a 7-3 lead in the fourth inning, scoring their sixth run via home run.
- Edgewood College scored their fourth and final run in the eighth inning. With two outs, Sagan reached via walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kalafut singled to center field, scoring Sagan.
- Sagan went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs. Prindle added two hits and a run for the Eagles. Kalafut recorded two RBI and a hit. Slonim notched the only extra base hit for Edgewood College, a double.
- Nick Manthei pitched 2.1 innings for the Eagles and took the loss. Garrett Redner and Ryan Mixey came on in relief. All three pitchers recorded one strikeout. Trevor Reinhardt earned the win for St. Norbert. Reinhardt went the distance and struck out eight batters.
