Eagles earn Senior Day Sweep over Muskies

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team swept Lakeland University in Friday's NACC doubleheader. The Eagles earned the game one victory, 3-0, before solidifying the sweep with an 8-1 nightcap. The Eagles celebrated the careers of nine seniors as well as Veteran's Appreciation Day.

EAGLES 3, MUSKIES 0 (GAME ONE)
- Through the first two innings of play, strong pitching from both the Eagles and Muskies was the story. A total of seven batters struck out at the plate, with Fay from Lakeland (16-20, 6-16 NACC) recording four, while Kyle Semrand notched three.

- Edgewood College (19-19, 10-12 NACC) scored the first run of the afternoon in the third inning. Connor Goodwin found himself on third base after a walk, stolen base, and wild pitch. Joseph Kalafut knocked the ball to first base and the speedy Goodwin scored on the fielder's choice play.

- The Eagles would score again in the bottom of the sixth inning, as an RBI bunt single from Goodwin scored Carson Richter from third. The third and final run came in the eighth inning. Kalafut doubled to center field, scoring Alex Prindle who reached base earlier on a double down the right field line.

- Edgewood College recorded 12 hits in the game. Ryan Ambrosy went 2-for-3 at the plate. Prindle, Goodwin, and Richter each recorded two hits. Kalafut notched two RBIs and a double.

- Kyle Semrad recorded the complete game shutout. Semrad struck out a career-high eight batters and scattered just four hits. Fay recorded seven strikeouts for the Muskies.

EAGLES 8, MUSKIES 1 (GAME TWO)
- The bats continued to roll in game two as the Eagles recorded 10 hits in the nightcap. Kyle Sagan led the Edgewood College offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Goodwin, Jacob Slonim, and Max Hoeser each notched two hits. Slonim adding a double, while Goodwin knocked his first triple of the season.

- Lakeland scored their first and only run of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame. An RBI single off the bat of Slonim scored Sagan. Edgewood College would tack on a run in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.

- The Eagles plated two runs in the fourth, fifth, and eighth frames. The Eagles scoring was highlighted by a huge triple RBI triple off the bat of Goodwin in the eighth inning.

- There were a number of key defensive plays from the left side of the Eagles defense. Sagan recorded two clutch diving plays to hold the Lakeland offense, while Adam Cairo made a spectacular diving play in left field in the top of the seventh inning. Cairo's play was the start of a clutch three-up-three down inning for the Eagles.

- Joseph Kalafut went eight innings on the mound for Edgewood College, scattering just four hits. Kalafut tied his career-high performance with eight strikeouts.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- In celebration of Veteran's Appreciation Day Edgewood College Junior, Water McEuen threw out the first pitch. McEuen is an Operation Iraqi Freedom Marine Corps Veteran.

- After the game the Eagles celebrated nine 2022 seniors – Slonim, Cairo, Connor Zagrodnik, Prindle, Eric Nelson, Will Mossa, Matthew Turner, Tim Kelly, and Semrad. Thank you to those nine players for their contributions to the Edgewood College baseball program.

- The Eagles will close out the regular season with a NACC doubleheader at Illinois Tech on Saturday. Action from Chicago, Ill. is set for 12:00 p.m.
