VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team dropped a pair of NACC games Monday against St. Norbert College. The Eagles bats struggled through both games and errors played a part as the Green Knights earned both wins, 4-3 and 5-3.
GREEN KNIGHTS 4, EAGLES 3 (GAME ONE)
- Eric Nelson turned in a solid start for the Eagles, throwing seven innings and striking out eight St. Norbert batters. The senior only allowed two earned runs and held St. Norbert scoreless through four innings.
- Edgewood College (17-17, 8-12 NACC) scored first in the opener, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Alex Prindle belted a home run over the right field fence and scored Max Hoeser. The Eagles wouldn't score again until the bottom of the ninth inning.
- The Green Knights plated two runs in the fifth inning to tie things up, and added a run in the sixth and eighth frames for a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the ninth inning the Eagles looked like they could win it all. With runners on second and third, the Eagles third run of the game came on a balk from the Green Knights pitcher. The tying run was on third base, but the Eagles were shut down at the plate.
- Kyle Sagan and Hoeser each knocked doubles for the Eagles, while five different batters notched one hit.
- Trevor Reinhardt earned the win for St. Norbert (16-14, 13-7 NACC), striking out seven Eagles in a complete game.
GREEN KNIGHTS 5, EAGLES 3 (GAME TWO)
- Despite scoring first in game two, the Eagles only managed three hits and were haunted by costly fielding errors in the nightcap.
- Edgewood College took a 2-0 lead after two innings of play, scoring one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning. St. Norbert tacked on three runs in the fourth inning, all unearned. The Green Knights added a run in the fifth and eighth for the 5-3 final.
- Kyle Jungers made the start for Edgewood College, striking out five batters through six innings pitched. Connor Dunfee came on in relief, pitching three innings and striking out two. Jungers and Dunfee combined for just one earned run.
- Prindle led the Eagles bats with two hits, one run, and a double. Adam Cairo scored the other two runs for Edgewood College.
