VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Softball team fell to Aurora University in a NACC doubleheader on Sunday. The Spartans earned a 9-1 five inning victory in game one, followed by a 5-1 win in game two.
SPARTANS 9, EAGLES 1 – 5 INNINGS (GAME ONE)
- Edgewood College (19-19, 12-10 NACC) got on the board first in game one, as an RBI double off the bat of Jenna Sanchez plated Alyse Maurer in the bottom of the first inning.
- Aurora University (31-7, 19-5 NACC) responded quickly, with a five run third inning. The Spartans would go on to add one run in the third inning and three runs in the fifth.
- The Eagles struggled to get things going through the final four innings at the plate. The Spartan ace Hannah Tomasko earned her 16th win of the season, striking out five Eagles and scattering six hits.
- Mackenzie Doherty led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-2. Olivia Hebert went 2-for-3 and knocked a double.
- Grace Pustina got the start in the circle for the Eagles, going four innings and allowing two earned runs.
SPARTANS 5, EAGLES 1 (GAME TWO)
- The Spartans offense was steady in game two, scoring runs in the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh frames.
- Elizabeth Malarski was outstanding for the Eagles defense, making two stellar plays in right field. Her first came in the top of the second inning, making a snag in deep right field to end the inning. Malarski also made a clutch diving play in the fifth inning to hold the Spartans to just one run scored.
- The Eagles scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. An RBI single off the bat of Grace Ott plated Kya Loffswold from third base.
- Hebert, Maurer, Ott, Sanchez, Haylee Kasuboski, and Loffswold each recorded a hit for the Eagles.
- Tatum Duff pitched all seven innings for Edgewood College, striking out two and allowing four earned runs.
