Eagles Rebound to Split with Green Knights

DE PERE, Wis. – After being rained out on Saturday, the Edgewood College Softball team got off to a slow start on Monday. The Eagles fell behind St. Norbert early and dropped game one 10-6 before responding in game two. Edgewood College scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to end in an 8-5 victory.

EAGLES 8, GREEN KNIGHTS 5 (GAME TWO)
- St. Norbert College (7-31, 7-17 NACC) took an early 3-0 lead through two innings in game two. The Edgewood College offense mounted a strong comeback, scoring in the third, fourth, and fifth innings and holding on to an 8-5 victory.

- Olivia Hebert led off the third inning for Edgewood College (20-20, 13-11 NACC) with a triple. On the next at-bat, Jenna Sanchez scored Hebert on a fielder's choice SAC bunt. A double off the bat of Grace Ott plated Alyse Maurer for the Eagles second run of the game.

- The Eagles took the lead in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back. A single from Sanchez scored Hebert to tie things up at three. Maurer scored Sanchez on an RBI triple, and Ott scored Maurer in the next at-bat. The three-run inning gave the Eagles a 5-3 advantage.

- Edgewood College tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by two RBI doubles from Mackenzie Doherty and Sanchez.

- Sanchez went 2-for-3 at the plate, with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and a double. Hebert, Maurer, Ott, and Kya Loffswold each notched two hits.

- Grace Pustina earned the win for Edgewood College, pitching five innings, scattering eight hits, and striking out one batter.

GREEN KNIGHTS 10, EAGLES 6 (GAME ONE)
- The Green Knights offense exploded in the first inning of game one, scoring seven runs.

- The Eagles offense finally found a spark in the third inning, scoring four runs. The first Eagles run came on a first and third situation where Hebert scored after reaching on a single. A double from Ott drove in two more runs, and the fourth run came off an RBI single from Malarski.

- Edgewood College added their fifth run in the top of the fourth inning, bringing the score to 7-5. In the bottom of the fourth, the Green Knights tacked on two more runs to take a 9-5 lead.

- Going into the seventh frame the Green Knights held their 10-6 lead. Edgewood College loaded the bases, but couldn't plate a run.

- Hebert went 3-for-3 at the plate, adding a run, two doubles, and 2 RBIs. Ott went 3-for-4 with a double, a run, and 2 RBI.

- Tatum Duff received the loss, pitching all six innings and striking out two while scattering 11 hits. Alexis Tingley went the distance for St. Norbert, collecting three strikeouts and three earned runs.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College finishes the regular season with a record of 20-20, 13-11 NACC. The Eagles hopes for a NACC Tournament berth are still alive after a split with St. Norbert on Monday. Edgewood College will wait to see the final between Concordia Wisconsin and Lakeland, a game set for Tuesday afternoon. With a Lakeland loss, the Eagles would earn the number six seed and a trip to the tournament.

- The last time the Eagles made the NACC Tournament was during the 2015 season. In 2015, the Eagles went 1-2 in the conference tournament.
