LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College Baseball team dropped a pair of NACC games Sunday at Benedictine University. In the battle of the Eagles, Edgewood College had a tough time solving the Benedictine pitching staff, falling 3-1 in the opener and 7-0 in the nightcap.
BENEDICTINE 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1 (GAME ONE)
- Nick Manthei turned in another solid start for the Eagles, this time throwing seven innings and striking out three Benedictine batters. The freshman had only allowed two hits through the first five innings when Benedictine plated all three of their runs in the sixth inning.
- Unfortunately for Manthei and the Edgewood College (15-13, 8-8 NACC) offense, Benedictine (21-6, 15-1 NACC) pitcher Justin Sosa was dominant on Sunday. Sosa went the distance for Benedictine, striking out 13 and scattering nine hits.
- Edgewood College finished the game with nine hits, two each from Carson Richter and Alex Prindle. Adam Cairo added a double. Edgewood College scored their lone run in the top of the ninth inning. Richter scored on a passed ball from third base.
BENEDICTINE 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (GAME TWO)
- The Edgewood College bats struggled in the nightcap, only collecting two hits, one each from Kyle Sagan and Tim Kelly. Kelly knocked a double to start the sixth inning, but was caught stealing in the next at bat.
- Benedictine scored five runs in the first frame and added their sixth and seventh run in the second inning. Benedictine collected eight hits in game two.
- Leo Stone took the loss for Edgewood College, pitching two innings. Kyle Semrad struck out five Benedictine batters in relief.
