Eagles settle for split with Sabres

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team split with Marian University in conference play on Saturday. The Eagles won the opener 15-12, before falling 7-5 in game two.

EAGLES 15, SABRES 12 (GAME ONE)
- Edgewood College (15-11, 8-6 NACC) took a 7-5 lead after three innings in the opener thanks to a two-run first and four more in the third inning. Alex Prindle started the scoring with a two-run home run to center field. Carson Richter and Ryan Ambrosy drove in runs for the Eagles in the third inning.

- Marian University (10-15, 5-9 NACC) tied the game up after score runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Eagles quickly responded with a two run sixth and six run seventh. Four of the Edgewood College runs in the seventh frame came from singles. The Eagles displayed patient and timely hitting to take a 15-8 lead after seven. Marian tacked on four runs through the final two innings but it wasn't enough.

- Matthew Turner picked up the win, with 2.1 innings pitched and one strikeout. Kyle Jungers recorded six strikeouts in four innings pitched, while Ben Collier came in for 2.2 innings and earned the save, striking out three Sabres.

- Kyle Sagan led the Eagles bats, going 4-for-5 and scoring three runs. Joseph Kalafut and Adam Cairo each scored three runs. Sagan, Max Hoeser, and Ryan Ambrosy each knocked doubles, while Alex Prindle notched his third home run of the season. Ambrosy added a team-high four RBI.

SABRES 7, EAGLES 5 (GAME TWO)
- Despite 12 hits, four doubles, and a home run, the Eagles couldn't hold on for the game two victory. The Sabres took a 3-2 lead after three innings and never looked back. Marian scored two runs in the sixth, and a run in each the seventh and eighth frame for the 7-5 final.

- Garrett Redner took the loss, despite striking out four Sabres through five innings pitched. Nick Holland and Will Mossa each threw two innings for the Eagles, as the pitching staff did not walk any Marian batters in game two.

- Kalafut led the Eagle bats, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a home run in the nightcap. Sagan, Prindle, and Connor Goodwin each recorded two hits.

- Edgewood College will head to Benedictine University for a NACC doubleheader on Sunday. Action from Lisle, Ill. is set for 3:00 p.m.
