PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Edgewood College Softball team's bats came alive in a conference sweep over Lakeland University on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles went on the road to Lakeland and took two from the Muskies, a 10-6 game-one followed by a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.
EAGLES 10, MUSKIES 6
- Edgewood College (16-14, 9-5 NACC) saw notched an impressive 15 hits and providing Tatum Duff with run support, scoring in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Lakeland University (13-8, 8-4 NACC) scored the first two run of the game in the first inning. The Eagles first run of the afternoon came in the third inning, as Kaya Loffswold scored off a double from Alyse Maurer. In the bottom of the third inning, Lakeland took a 3-1 lead over the Eagles.
- The Eagle bats responded quickly, mounting their comeback with a three run fourth inning. Edgewood College scored their second run of the game on a wild pitch. Mackenzie Doherty and Olivia Hebert each added run-scoring hits to take the lead 4-1.
- Edgewood College would tack on four more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a home run from Maurer in the first at bat of the frame. The Eagles would tack on two more runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
- The Eagles were busy on the base paths, notching three stolen bases. Maurer led the Eagles going 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI. Hebert, Loffswold, Elizabeth Malarski, and Doherty each recorded two hits. Maurer, Jenna Sanchez, and Doherty each ripped a double.
- Tatum Duff pitched her fifth-straight complete game. Duff recorded two strikeouts and only allowed four earned runs while scattering eight hits.
EAGLES 9, MUSKIES 2
- The nightcap was all Edgewood College, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2.5 innings thanks to two runs in both the second and third frames. Lakeland scored their only two runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the game 4-2. The Eagles tacked on three runs in the fourth inning and one run in both the sixth and seventh frames.
- Edgewood College totaled 11 hits, four from Hebert, two from Doherty, and one each from five other Eagles. Hebert went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and three runs scored. Malarski got the game going for the Eagles, notching a two-run home run in the second inning.
- Malarski earned the win for the Eagles, pitching 3.1 innings and only allowing one hit. Grace Pustina earned the start in game two, going 3.2 innings in the circle.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 9-5 league record is the most wins by the Eagles since the 2015 season. In 2015 the Eagles finished NACC play with a 11-11 record and earned a trip to the conference tournament.
