WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Powered by a grand slam and stellar pitching, the Edgewood College Softball team earned another NACC sweep on Tuesday. Edgewood College went on the road to Wisconsin Lutheran and took two from the Warriors, a 4-1 game one win followed by a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
EAGLES 4, WARRIORS 1 (GAME ONE)
- Tatum Duff threw her first complete game of the day, in leading the Eagles to the game one win. The freshman allowed just seven hits and one earned run while striking out three. Duff only issued one walk in her sixth win of the season.
The Edgewood College (13-13, 6-4 NACC) offense came through in the sixth inning, as Grace Ott scored Alyse Maurer from second base on a single to left field. The Eagles would add their final three runs of the contest as a double from Elizabeth Malarski, Duff's single, and a fielder's choice off the bat of Mackenzie Doherty earned the Eagles a solid 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.
- The Eagles were aggressive on the base path, stealing four bases in the opener. At the plate, Ott led the way with two hits. Haylee Kasuboski, Malarski, and Duff each recorded one hit for the Eagles. Edgewood College also drew six walks from the Wisconsin Lutheran College pitching staff (8-12, 1-7 NACC)
- The Edgewood College defense and Duff recorded four three-up three-down innings and worked out of jams in both the fifth and seventh innings.
EAGLES 6, WARRIORS 3 (GAME TWO)
- The Eagles bats came alive in the second contest, as they recorded 11 hits in the nightcap victory. Edgewood College jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a single from Kasuboski scored Olivia Hebert from third base. The Warriors scored a run in the fourth to tie things up, but a four run fifth inning was all important for the Eagles.
- With bases loaded in the top of the fifth frame, Ott stepped up to the plate and sent a grand slam over the left field fence. The freshman gave the Eagles an all-important 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Edgewood College would add one run in the sixth and hold on for the 6-3 final after the Warriors plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
- It was Duff who threw her second complete game of the day. Duff struck out two and did not allow a walk in the nightcap.
- Again, the Eagles showed speed on the base paths, recording another four stolen bases, led by Jenna Sanchez with two. At the plate, Sanchez led the Eagles with three hits. Hebert notched two hits and two runs, while Ott totaled two hits and four RBI. Malarski, Kasuboski, Maurer, and Loffswold each added a hit for the Eagles. Four Eagles scored in the nightcap win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles third sweep conference sweep of the season is the most since the 2015 season. The Eagles earned four NACC sweeps during 2015 and it was the last time they made a trip to the postseason, going 1-2 in the conference tournament.
