KENOSHA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team picked up a win in its second match of the spring, a 5-4 final at Carthage on Sunday. The Eagles started the day with a sweep in doubles play, before securing two singles wins to gain the non-conference victory.
EAGLES 5, FIREBIRDS 4
- The Eagles (10-5) won all three double matches to start the day, building a nice cushion heading into singles play.
Cecile Fuchs and
Ally Verbauwhede posted an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Ellie Murphy and
Jewel Lindwall won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 team of
Madelyn Connaughty and
Maddy Coopmans had the toughest doubles match, but they were able to give the Eagles the doubles sweep with an 8-7 victory.
- In singles play, Edgewood College needed two wins and got those from Fuchs and Verbauwhede. Fuchs won 6-3, 6-3 in her No. 1 singles bout, while Verbauwhede posted a 6-0, 7-5 No. 3 singles win.
- The other four singles matches went in favor of Carthage on Sunday afternoon.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win was the first non-conference win of the season for the NACC champion Eagles. Edgewood College is now 1-5 in non-league matches after going 9-0 in conference matches.
- It was also the first win for the Eagles over Carthage in Women's Tennis. Edgewood College is now 1-8 against the Firebirds in matches going back to the 2003 season.

- The Eagles will play one more match before the NACC Tournament and that contest will be two weeks from today. Edgewood College will visit Wartburg at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 24.
