VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College Softball team faced another difficult test on Sunday, welcoming NACC unbeaten Dominican University to Ceniti Park for two games. The league-leading Stars lived up to its billing by sweeping the Eagles, 9-5 and 10-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The second inning in both games was one to forget for the Eagles (11-13, 4-4 NACC). In game one, Dominican scored eight times in the second inning, five of those unearned. The Stars (21-1, 8-0 NACC) added a run in the third to take a 9-0 lead before the Eagles got going. Edgewood College would score twice in the fourth and three times in the sixth, but Dominican secured the game one win, 9-5.
-
Haylee Kasuboski paced the Eagles in the first game with three hits, including two doubles, while scoring two runs.
Alyse Maurer added a home run for Edgewood College, while finishing 2-for-3.
Olivia Hebert also collected two hits for the Eagles.
- Allison Dilday secured the win for Dominican as she pitched the first three innings and the seventh inning. She did not allow a run, while striking out four.
Tatum Duff went the distance for the Eagles, surrendering just four earned runs with two strikeouts.
- In game two, the Eagles went up 1-0 after the bottom of the first, but Dominican scored five times in the second inning, thanks in large part to three Edgewood College errors. The Stars built an 8-1 lead after batting in the top of the fourth and held on for a 10-3 win.
- The two teams staffs combined for 19 walks in game two. Dominican pitchers issued seven, while the Eagles duo of
Grace Pustina and
Elizabeth Malarski each walked four batters. Dilday got the win for Dominican, her 12th of the season, by throwing four innings with six strikeouts.
- Hebert paced the Eagles offense with a 2-for-2 game, while Malarski added a double.
- The Eagles did threaten in the bottom of the seventh by loading the bases with two outs and appeared to cut the Stars lead to 10-5 after a single with two outs. However, the home plate umpire ruled the Eagles batter was out of the box, resulting in the game to end.
