Eagles Take Series from Hawks with Brisack's 400th Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Edgewood College Baseball Coach Al Brisack won his 400th career game as the Eagles took the weekend series from Huntingdon with a 15-5 victory on Sunday. The Eagles used an eight-run fourth inning to break the game open, securing Brisack's milestone win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles plated two runs in the first and second innings on Sunday and took a 4-2 lead into the top of the fourth. Edgewood College (2-4) then broke the game open with eight runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Ryan Ambrosy. Jacob Slonim added a two-RBI single in the frame, while Adam Cairo and Cooper Holewinski each delivered RBI singles.

- Edgewood College used five pitchers on Sunday, but maybe the coolest part of the milestone win for Al Brisack was that his son, freshman Brevin Brisack, was on the mound for the final out. Nick Manthei got the win as the Eagles designated it was going to be a bullpen game and he went 2.2 innings. Nick Holland, Will Mossa, Ben Collier, and Brevin Brisack all threw as well with Mossa and Collier delivering scoreless appearances.

- At the plate, the Eagles finished with 13 hits and 15 runs scored. Cairo concluded a great weekend with a 4-for-6, three runs scored, three-RBI game, while Ambrosy and Joseph Kalafut each drove in three runs as well. Conner Goodwin, Cairo, and Daniel Bentivegna each scored three times.

- Perhaps the most important thing on Sunday was the Eagles cleaned up the defense. After committing six errors in each of the first two games of the series, Edgewood College made just two on Sunday. The two errors came in the first three innings as the Eagles didn't make a defensive mistake from the fourth inning on.

- The Eagles did add three insurance runs in the top of the ninth, two off a Kalafut single. Cairo delivered his third run-scoring single in the ninth as well.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Brisack has now won 400 games in his 23rd season with the Eagles.  The 2020 season was reduced to just four games so the 400 wins have basically come in 21 full seasons with 2022 being just six games in. He began his run with the Eagles in 2000.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play five games on their Arizona spring trip, the first on Sunday, March 13 against Macalester College. First pitch for that game is set for 1:30 p.m. in Arizona.
