Eagles Settle for Second-Straight Split at the Auggie Dome Games

MINNEAPOLIS – The Edgewood College Softball team has played four different days so far in the 2022 season. The Eagles have split games in each of those four days, this time winning one and losing one against Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon. Edgewood College rolled in the opener to a 9-1 win via the eight-run rule before falling, 11-10, in nine innings in game two.

EAGLES 9, AUGGIES 1 (F/5 – GAME ONE)
- Both teams had five hits in the opener, but it was Edgewood College (3-1) who took advantage of Augsburg's (3-1) inability to throw strikes. The Eagles reached base nine time via a walk and once more on a hit batter in the eight-run win.

- After both teams scored in the first inning, Edgewood College erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second. The first four were scored on a bases loaded walk or hit batter, while Alyse Maurer capped off the inning with an RBI single. Maurer paced the Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-3 game, driving in two runs.

- Lauren Ludvigsen added two hits at the plate and delivered a complete game in the circle for the Eagles. Ludvigsen had a double at the dish, and allowed just one run in the first inning before settling in nicely for her first win of the season.

- Nine different Eagles scored a run in the 9-1 win and six different players drove one in.

AUGGIES 11, EAGLES 10 (F/19 – GAME TWO)
- Game two saw 21 combined runs and 26 combined hits as both offenses were locked in. Edgewood College built a 2-1 lead after scoring twice in the top of the second, but Augsburg took a 3-2 lead with runs in the bottom of the second and third.

- Both teams plated four runs in the fourth inning before the Eagles tied the game at 7-7 with a run in the top of the sixth. After a scoreless seventh, the teams went to extra innings.

- The Auggie Dome Games used the international tiebreaker rule for extra innings so a runner is placed on second base to start the frame. The Eagles scored two in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Olivia Hebert and an RBI single from Maurer. Augsburg answered with two runs of their own, Kayla Hanson providing the big hit with a triple.

- Edgewood College tacked on a run in the top of the ninth when Mackenzie Doherty doubled in Haylee Kasuboski. Unfortunately, Augsburg had one last answer as Torrie Rehder tied the game with an RBI double and later scored the winning run on a base hit from Grace Syson.

- The Eagles roped five doubles in the second contest, one each from Jenna Sanchez, Hebert, Elizabeth Malarski, Grace Ott, and Doherty. Meredith Taylor had a big game at the plate for Augsburg with a triple and a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Kya Loffswold paced the Eagles offense with three hits from the leadoff spot.

- Malarski saw her first action in the circle for the Eagles, throwing 4.2 innings in relief of starter Tatum Duff. Saryn Sherrell earned the win for Augsburg, throwing 5.2 relief innings.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will begin their spring break trip next Saturday, March 12 with two games in the Florida. The first is scheduled for 5 p.m. eastern against SUNY Geneseo.
