CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edgewood College Softball team evened both its overall record and record on its Florida trip with a 10-0 win over Ripon College on Sunday morning. The Eagles took care of the Red Hawks in five innings via the eight-run rule.
EAGLES 10, RED HAWKS 0 (F/5)
- Edgewood College (5-5) and Ripon (0-7) probably felt right at home as the two Wisconsin teams met in 47-degree weather on Sunday morning. Still, it didn't take long for the Eagle bats to warm up as they scored five times in the bottom of the first inning.
Haylee Kasuboski had an RBI double in the inning, while both
Jenna Sanchez and
Elizabeth Malarski stole home.
- Aggressive baserunning was on display for Edgewood College throughout the game. The Eagles stole seven bases with seven different players swiping one bag.
- Edgewood College added a run in the bottom of the third before putting the game away with four runs in the fourth.
Mackenzie Doherty drove in a run in both those innings, leading the team with two RBI.
- The Eagles totaled nine hits in the game with Kasuboski and Sanchez each collecting two hits each.
Olivia Hebert,
Alyse Maurer, and
Anna Robbins all scored two runs.
- The run support was more than enough for
Lauren Ludvigsen, who turned in a complete-game shutout in the circle. Ludvigsen scattered six hits and struck out two. After walking two batters in the top of the first, she settled in nicely and did not issue a free pass the rest of the way. The defense behind Ludvigsen was outstanding as the Eagles did not commit an error.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Coach
Allie Taylor clearly wants the Eagles to be aggressive this season and it has shown with 31 stolen bases through 10 games. Hebert leads the team with six steals, while Maurer has five swipes.
