Shane joins 1,000-point club as Eagles lock down Sabres for NACC Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Senior Abby Shane became the 11th Edgewood College Women's Basketball player to reach 1,000 career points as the Eagles picked up a NACC road win over Marian University Saturday. The Eagles got out to a 18-9 advantage after the first period and never looked back, picking up their fourth-straight win with an 82-65 final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shane joined the 1,000-point club with her second basket of the game, coming with 6:59 left in the first period. She connected on her second three-pointer of the night to reach the milestone.

- The Eagles offense was on fire in the conference victory, shooting a season-best 58.9 percent (33-for-56) from the floor in the victory. Going into halftime Edgewood College (9-11, 9-4 NACC) owned a 41-33 lead. The Eagles held off the Marian University (6-14, 4-10 NACC) attack well in the second period, shooting 75 percent (9-for-12) and managing surges from the Sabres attack with timely scoring from beyond the arc.

- Both the Eagles and Sabres were almost even scoring through the third period, as the Eagles notched 16 points and the Sabres collected 14. Just one minute into the fourth period the Sabres came within four points of the Eagles, but a 13-3 run by Edgewood College all but assured the victory.

- Three Eagles finished in double-figures on Saturday, led the Diamond Pikulyk's career-high 24 points. Mady Pahl added 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor, while Shane collected 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc and 4-for-9 shooting from the floor.

- Pikulyk added six rebounds, while Claudia Fierias pulled down five rebounds. Vivian Guerrero added a team-high seven assists.

- The Eagles added four blocks, two each from Emma Klein and Guerrero.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Shane is the 11th player in Eagles history to reach 1,000 career-points. Megan Scheele (2005-09) is the Eagles all-time leading scorer with 2,120 points.

- Senior Pikulyk collected a career-high 24 points in the contest and only missed two shots from the floor. The double-digit scoring effort is her third straight and 14th of the season as she leads the team in points and field goal percentage.

- The Eagles offense seems to be getting hot a just the right time, since January 15 the Eagles have shot over 50 percent from the floor in four games and over 45 percent in six games. The Eagles 58.9 shooting percentage goes down in history as the second-best field goal percentage. The highest field goal percentage was 60.3 made back on February 9, 2019 against Rockford University.

THE OPPOSITION
- Paris Harris led the Sabres with 20 points. Lexi Brakenbush added 12 points for Marian. Claire Levendoski, Sierra Strope-Robinson, and Becca Theisen each added six points each.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head to Aurora University on Tuesday, February 8 for another NACC match. Action from Thornton Gymnasium is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
