Strong offensive start lifts Eagles past Spartans

AURORA, Ill. – Aided by five double-digit scorers and a double-double from Vivian Guerrero, the Edgewood College Women's Basketball team earned their fifth straight and 10th NACC win of the season. The Eagles earned the conference victory over Aurora University on Tuesday night behind a 52.3 percent shooting effort and dominant rebounding.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (10-11, 10-4 NACC) came out the gate fast and never looked back, scoring a whopping 25 points in the first period and holding Aurora University (10-9, 8-5 NACC) to just eight points. The Eagles went into the break scoring 23 points in a second period that featured a game-high 9-for-16 shooting (56.25 percent).

- After halftime the Spartans picked up their pace, scoring three straight three-pointers and dropping the Eagles lead to 20 points. The Eagles responded quickly, scoring 14 straight points and holding Aurora scoreless through three minutes. Vivian Guerrero scored nine of the Eagles 14 points in the run and 11 of the Eagles 24 points in the third period.

- The Eagles biggest lead of the contest came with just 3:50 left in the fourth period, as Eden Bonser completed a steal and layup to put the Eagles up by 38 points (87-49).

- Five Eagles scored in double-figures on the evening. Edgewood College also recorded 32 bench points. Guerrero led the Eagles tying her career-high 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Mady Pahl collected a career-high 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor. Claudia Fieiras added a career-high 12 points

- Rebounds proved to be a big difference in the contest, as the Eagles pulled down 50 total boards and the Spartans finished 38. In addition, 12 of the 50 rebounds came on the offensive side of the ball. Guerrero collected a career-high 17 rebounds to complete the double-double. Emma Klein added eight rebounds.

- Eden Bonser picked up 12 points, dished out five assists, and collected a career-high four steals. Diamond Pikulyk added another double-digit scoring effort, collecting 11 points and pulling down six rebounds. Abby Shane was critical in the first period for the Eagles, as she knocked down two three-pointers early on and ended the night with nine points on 3-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College now moves past Aurora into fifth place in conference standings. The Eagles will play Concordia Wisconsin and Benedictine over the next week, the two teams who stand above them in standings.

- Edgewood College shot over 50 percent from the floor for the fifth game this season.

THE OPPOSITION
- Julie Galauner led the Aurora University offense on Tuesday night, scoring 16 points and connected on 4-for-9 from three-point range. Victoria Perry added 10 points for the Spartans. Katie Beebe led the Spartans with 11 rebounds, while Sam Barrett dished out six assists.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will host Concordia University Wisconsin as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. Edgewood College will also celebrate senior night on Saturday, February 12. Action will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
