Duff Dazzles in Circle, Eagles Split on Opening Night

PEORIA, Ill. – Freshman Tatum Duff pitched well in both of her appearances and fellow rookie Grace Ott blasted a three-run home run as the Edgewood College Softball team split a pair of non-conference games to open its 2022 season on Thursday night. The Eagles dropped the opener to Loras, 6-0, before rebounding with a 7-1 win over Lincoln.

EAGLES 7, LYNX 1
- In the nightcap, Duff went the distance in the circle, allowing just three hits and one unearned run over her seven innings of work. She kept the ball low, forcing 15 ground balls as the Eagles (1-1) defense played well behind her.

- Duff was locked in a pitcher's dual until the sixth inning when Edgewood College erupted for seven runs. Ott started the party with a 3-run home run to leftcenter, plating Olivia Hebert and Jenna Sanchez. Sanchez capped off the seven-run inning with an RBI double, plating Kya Loffswold. Loffswold and Elizabeth Malarski added run-scoring singles in the frame.

- The Eagles outhit the Lynx (0-1), 12-3, with Loffswold, Sanchez, Maurer, and Lauren Ludvigsen all collecting two hits each.

- Bailey Wilkinson took the loss for Lincoln. She carried a shutout until the sixth inning, but couldn't record an out in that frame. She was charged with four of the Eagles seven runs, Terin Tetter charged with the other three.

DUHAWKS 6, EAGLES 0
-  The Eagles offense was silenced in the 2022 opener as Ashlyn Hemm and Kayla Stich of Loras (2-0) combined for a no-hitter. Hemm went five innings and struck out eight, while Stich came on for the final two frames.

- Ludvigsen took the loss for the Eagles, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing six runs, three earned. She struck out four before handing the ball off to Duff, who did not allow a run in 2.2 innings of work. Duff also punched out four batters.

- The Duhawks scored twice each in the third, fourth, and fifth innings and ended the game with eight hits. Eight different Loras batters collected a hit, none going for extra bases.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they'll play two more at the Mount Mary Collegiate Slugger Series tomorrow morning. The first game will be against Lawrence at 8 am, followed by a contest against Augustana at 10 am.
