Eagles lock down Inferno in NACC win

MADISON, Wis. - Playing at home for the first and only time in the month of December, the Edgewood College women's basketball team put together another dominant performance in an 85-49 win over Alverno College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles have now won two-straight NACC games, bringing them back to .500 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (3-6, 2-2 NACC) came out strong on Saturday, shooting 64.3 percent (9-for-14) for an 18-11 advantage after the first period. Alverno College (1-7, 0-4 NACC) went stride-for-stride with the Eagles through the first four minutes, but couldn't hold on to the speedy offense.

- The Eagles really found their stride in the second quarter, outscoring the Inferno 28-12 to take a 46-23 lead into halftime. Edgewood College went on a 13-0 run to start the second period, which was sparked by a jumper from Paige Banks and featured points from Kallie Norby and Vivian Guerrero.

- Edgewood College continued their stride in the third period, collecting 18 points. In the final quarter, the Eagles relied on their freshman class, who combined for 20 of the 21 points scored in the final 10 minutes.

- On the afternoon Edgewood College dominated in the paint, scoring 52 of their 85 points from close range and out rebounding the Inferno 53-35.

- For the second-straight game the Eagles saw every available player hit the floor and record a statistic. 16 Eagles pulled down a rebound, 15 contributed to the scoring effort, and 12 players dished out at least one assist.

- Guerrero recorded her first double-double of the season, recording 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting and pulling down 10 rebounds. Guerrero also added five assists in the win. Norby and Emma Klein each scored in double-figures, with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Banks added seven points and dished out five assists. Claudia Fieiras and Klein each added four assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College recorded 31 shared the ball well on Saturday, tying the single game school record for assists with 31.

- Freshman Grace Vesperman and Samantha Brady recorded career-high totals on the afternoon. Vesperman collected a career-best five points, four rebounds and two assists. Brady dished out three assists and pulled down two rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
- Camiria Sardin led the way for the Inferno, collecting 14 points and seven rebounds. Mya Roberts added nine points and four assists, while Jewel Zahradka pulled down six rebounds.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Puerto Rico for non-conference action on Saturday. The Eagles will face Emerson College in Bayamon, PR at 6:00 p.m. (AST).
