BAYAMÓN, P.R. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team was looking for their second non-conference win of the season, and pulled through with a 53-44 victory over Emerson College in Puerto Rico Saturday. Edgewood College featured a fairly balanced scoring attack with eight different players scoring in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither teams played particularly well in the first quarter, as Edgewood College (4-6) were scoreless going into the second quarter. Emerson College (3-8) took a scored nine points in the first quarter, shooting just 17.65 percent (3-for-17) and adding 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
- The Eagles finally found their groove in the second period, outscoring the Lions 15-10 in the quarter and taking just a four-point (19-15) deficit into halftime.
- Edgewood College saw their best shooting come in the third period. The Eagles shot 40 percent (8-for-20) from the floor and knocked down 22 points. With 2:26 left on the clock in the third quarter, the Eagles took a 30-29 lead on two good free-throws from Claudia Fieiras. Eden Bonser was a big part of the Eagles third quarter, scoring seven points.
- Edgewood College continued to hold a single-digit lead through the fourth period, outscoring the Lions 16-13 through the final 10 minutes of action.
- Eden Bonser led the Eagles attack with a career-best 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor. Vivian Guerrero picked up her second-straight double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds and collecting 11 points.
THE OPPOSITION
- Emerson was paced by Devin Hill who led the Lions with 11 points. Chelsea Gibbons and Mackenzie Bruno led the Lions in rebounds, pulling down 11 and 10, respectively.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles rebounding game has vastly improved in the past three wins. Edgewood College has averaged 52 total rebounds in the past three games. In addition, they pulled down double-digit offensive rebounds in the past two games.
- This is the first match-up between Edgewood College and Emerson.
